And Alot\u00a0is not a word.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-u0ys3290\"><em>A lot<\/em>\u00a0is like any\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/browse\/phrase\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two-word phrase<\/a>\u00a0with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/indefinite%20article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indefinite article\u00a0<\/a>(<em>a<\/em>) followed by a noun (<em>lot<\/em>). For example,\u00a0<em>a dog<\/em>,\u00a0<em>a bed<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>a mojito<\/em>\u00a0are similarly constructed phrases, but no one would write\u00a0<em>adog<\/em>,\u00a0<em>abed<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>amojito<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-0czbf313\">Unfortunately, spell check may not catch Alot as a misspelling. So, try to remember that Alot is not a word.\u00a0 The only proper usage is A lot.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-r1l53315\">This spell check guideline goes for a lot of small words. Whenever you get to a small word in a report like a, is, if, the, etc.\u00a0 Pump the brakes a bit and read it carefully.\u00a0 Sometimes you may simply mistype a word like is when you actually meant to type if, and spell check won\u2019t catch this.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"viewer-7244b319\">More of these types of usage errors will be covered in the future.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What Is the Difference Between A Lot and Alot? \u00a0 The short answer is \u2013 A lot is correct.
